The Traverse Theatre Company and Edinburgh International come together for their first full collaboration since 1999, with their world premiere of Rona Munro’s The Last Witch – an account of the life of Janet Horne, the last person to be executed for witchery in Scotland.

Boasting a strong cast, with Kathryn Howden playing the lead role and rising Scottish star Hannah Donaldson as her daughter Helen, the play tells the story of a woman sentenced to death in 1727 after neighbours claimed she had made a pact with the devil.

Directed by Dominic Hill—named best director at the 2008 Critic Awards for Theatre in Scotland—the play has been especially commissioned for this year’s International Festival, and explores the psychological rifts that can tear small communities apart. The production also sees the return of Ryan Fletcher, who featured in David Harrower’s 365 at last year’s International Festival, and Vicki Liddelle from David Greig's 2003 production of San Diego.
