Perched on the corner of Lothian Road and Princes Street, the recently refurbished Rutland Bar has one of the the most sophisticated decor arrangements in town. It’s a great place to go for an early evening drink and watch the world go by as you sit in one of its cosy window booths.

Always busy with the older professional crowd, it caters for more sophisticated tastes with dishes like braised pig cheek on its evening tasting menu (three dishes for £10). Freshly squeezed juices are available, as well as an extensive beer and wine menu.

It’s the cocktails that really stand out, though, with unusual ingredients like lavender and basil. Surprisingly competitively priced, they are every bit as sophisticated as the harmoniously designed decor.
